The Greater Gig Harbor Literary Society is a 501c(3) non-profit organization made up of local writers, authors, and readers who believe in the power of the written word. Through connection, education, collaboration, and community events, we support writers at every stage of their journey while promoting literacy and celebrating the literary arts throughout the Greater Gig Harbor community.

Mission Statement
Values
Builds community around the written word, by fostering engagement between creatives and the broader public without marginalization and with fairness to all people, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, or gender identity.
Creativity, Cooperation, Celebrating, Critiquing, and Commiserating together are our core values. When we say critiquing, we do not mean dispiriting.

In simple terms, literacy is the use of reading and writing to understand and communicate ideas. Reading involves consuming the written word with a goal in mind, while writing involves employing the written word to achieve a specific goal. Literacy is a vital component of any culture.
Our members are dedicated to elevating literacy in our community. They do that by honing their craft as writers and sharing the written word in various forms within the Greater Gig Harbor community and beyond. In addition, the society recently partnered with a local benefactor to administer the BBQ2U scholarship fund for local area graduating high school seniors who commit to courses of study that advance literacy.
